Peg Solitaire: how a round works

Choose a round of Peg Solitaire and settle into its rules. Leave a single peg on the English cross board. Look at what changes after your first action. Compare the starting position with the example in the Guide. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move.

English 33-hole cross; central starting gap; any final single peg wins.

A small practice goal

Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart. Use the example to check your reasoning.

The objective of a round

Leave a single peg on the English cross board. Read that aim before choosing your first action. The example below illustrates a decision.

How to proceed

  1. Select a peg and an empty hole two squares away.
  2. Jump horizontally or vertically over one peg, removing it.
  3. Plan so remaining pegs can still interact.
  4. Undo repairs a deadlock.

Controls

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. A new-round button replaces the current round.

An example to follow

Peg–peg–empty in one line permits one jump. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Consider the next action carefully.

Watch out for this

Diagonal jumps and pulling are not allowed. A different version of the game may use a different rule. After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again.
